Effort and Honor over birth.

This friendly, reclusive race of giant-kin are the most intelligent and powerful of their kind. Avoiding the majority of contact with other sentient beings, Firbolg tend to focus on their own spiritual and mental growth. They enjoy their quiet lives in the woods, and are harmonious with nature. Their ambitions in life are often to find peace within themselves so that they may join the Wildmother in the afterlife. The forests are sacred to them and symbolized the heart of the earth and the adaptability of life. They see themselves as the forests' caretakers.

Of the existing vices, greed is possibly one of the worst kind. They believe that one should only ever take what one needs and no more. They see no value in material wealth such as gems and gold, but sometimes find prankish ways of taking valuables from strangers, out of a sense of fun or even balance. Firbolgs believe that charity is a virtue but also believed that it was harmful for the recipient to know the identity of the provider; because of this they appeare to be reclusive amongst the other races, although they were very sociable with established friends. They are extremely honest and can not lie without feeling physical discomfort, even if the lie was by omission. Kind as they may be, they are distrusting of outsiders, especially with humans and Drow.

Firbolgs have family-centered, clan-based societies. They live in settlements in remote hilly or forested areas, being strongholds with wooden structures carved from the trees around them. While rare, the Firbolg might inhabit cavern complexes dug into the hillsides. Using their magic to ensure that their homes remained a secret to outsiders, their small settlements are protected often by a lead shaman or druid.

Physical Appearance

Due to their over-confident nature and fearlessness, excluding the pervasive phobia of humanoid mobs, the Firbolg see armor as futile or even cowardly. Thus, they do not dress in hefty armor but rather loose fitting robes and cloths. They are humanoid and men often sport rough, bristly beards and keep their bushy hair short, but not always. Their skin is thick and tough, covered by a thin sheet of fur that ranges in earthy colors like brown and ruddy red, to cool grays and blues. Their faces are somewhat cow-like, having long, floppy, pointed ears and broad, pink noses.
They can grow between 7 and 8 feet in height, women often the former, and weigh between 240-300 pounds.

Lifespan

Firbolg can live for as long as 500 years, most of them living the full capacity of their lifespan as they often avoid combat. At the end of a Firbolgs life, their hair and eyes will turn to a pearly white and they often lose their vision. When a Firbolg passes, they are expected to turn to a state of stone, and are considered one with earth and Wildmother. There are few cases where the Firbolg does not turn to stone, and these are often highly mourned and their souls questioned by their brethren.

Reproduction

Reproduction for Firbolg is effortless but not as common as other races. Once they have found a mate, they will stay with this partner until death. Due to their focus on inner growth and peace, the Firbolg often does not give reproduction much thought unless the numbers of their people begin to dwindle to scarce numbers.

In the case of Firbolg pairings, roll a D20. Success =8 or <.
