Faerin

Elves are a magical people of otherworldly grace, living in the world but not entirely part of it. They live in places of ethereal beauty, in the midst of ancient forests or in silvery spires glittering with faerie light, where soft music drifts through the air and gentle fragrances waft on the breeze. Elves love nature and magic, art and artistry, music and poetry, and the good things of the world.

In the era when Eladrin were thriving, some of those elves born would be barren of magic. Many of the Eladrin assumed this misshaping to be a result of those who bred with mortal blood, as these species of elves would not inherit their physical traits, arcane abilities nor longevity. Because of this, their ancestors viewed them less than equal, creating an apparent tension in the realm of Elsgadir.

Rejecting the formalities of the civilized world, the Faerin found comfort and strength in the life of the wilderness, among nature, trees, and animals. Their settlements are often in wooded villages or even within giant trees. Given the lavish style of their adversary, the Eladrin, Faerin adapted physically to these surroundings. Decorating their frames in the hues of earth, these creatures are often viewed as outcasts or savages by those more acclimated by noble establishments. Despite their infamy, these elves are known to be extremely agile and nimble. It is not uncommon to see the Faerin associated with thieves work or mastering the craft of archery.

The majority of Faerin are concentrated in the Hulder Timberlands and those that choose to live a life separate from the community are commonly found in the Kender lands of Aeren or even in the city of Elsgadir. Those elves collected in Hulder have followed the Green way, living on the forest and farming many of the magical beasts known as "Riders". This civilization is renown for having grown some of the monumental and ancient saplings, which they consider to possess spiritual connections. Many of these are constructed into homes and establishments. At the center of these woods are pavilions made of stone, where their high court gathers and many of their celebrations occur.
Most Faerin who are raised in the Hulder are accompanied by a single Sprite, who lives amongst the these ancient trees. At birth, the Spire shall choose it's bairn and gift the Faerin a singular and unique ability. Thus a lifelong bond remains between the two creatures.

Physical Appearance

Rarely do the Faerin stand above six foot in height, running smaller than their ancestors and closer to the height of mortal men. Their skin colors range from light brown to pale tan and even to light green. Their pointed ears are shorter than the Eladrin and their eyes are often shades of brown, black, green, rusted orange and amber. Though physically similar to their high elven brethren's striking beauty and grace, it is not uncommon to find a Faerin bearing scars, birthmarks or even other mild imperfections.

Lifespan

The lifespan of the Faerin is length but does not compare to their high elven brothers, who once were considered immortal. The majority Elders managing the Timberland council are near their final years of life, which happens to be towards the end of a second century. While they near the end of their lives, they thrive just as they did in their prime, never aging. At the time of their natural deaths, they will find a final slumber upon the earth and become one with it, where their bodies are then turned to stone. The elves are aware of their final day, as their hair will suddenly turn silver. The oldest Faerin documented lived to be near 350 years of age.

Reproduction

Reproduction for woodelves is not difficult and they are capable of bearing many children in their lifetime. Even unto their final days, the Faerin can reproduce. The Faerin who breeds with a human, orc, tiefling, dwarf or Kender. will produce a halfblood, who inherits half the traits of the Faerin and half of the other bloodline. The Faerin who by chance mates with Eladrin will fully favor either one, as there is no chance of a half bred between these two.
